It’s Kamado, not Komodo… (page 3)

From there, it was pizza. Pizza ? What business did a barbecue have with a pizza ?! A lot, as it happens. A game changer. And after that, some “posh grilling” – upscale food that I’d seen restaurants put to flame. Direct v indirect cooking, rotisseries, cast iron, reverse searing, dual zone, dutch ovens, “discos”, sous-vide (even !) and more took cooking in other directions. Knives, tools, griddles, pizza stones, baking steels, aprons, baskets, trompos, firestarters, charcoals, smoking woods and more … and so the portals to new universes of experience kept opening ! Kamado “special interests groups” were just the beginning…

And of course, it would be a long time later that the idea of a burger or sausage would make it to the wishlist. And when they did, they wouldn’t be just any old burger or sausage….naturally ! Even burgers have their own Facebook pages, it turns out.

Epilogue

Eight years on, I now have three Kamados. The “trifecta” as my online compatriots call such a collection – the “Big Joe”, the “Classic” and the “Junior”. They all have their uses…although friends and family “who don’t understand me” will always ask why I need three “komodos” ? Two of them came with me to the USA, while a third one was acquired stateside. I have amassed a serious collection of tools, accessories, toys and gadgets, some indispensable and some a real waste of money, but most of which I hope to cover here on tanyddraiggoch.com ultimately. Whether they’re useful or not; whether the food I cook is time or cost-efficient or not, it’s ALWAYS fun.

In my circle of “real life” friends (as opposed to online ones) I find that I’m mostly alone in my obsession … clearly it’s a niche hobby. That doesn’t worry me in the least, and maybe it’s not surprising – it’s not a team sport. It gives me time to myself : to imagine, invent, experiment and develop new skills. And when the experimentation is done, if the result is good enough – I can show off (who doesn’t like to do that once in a while 🙂 !). Thankfully, that’s when my friends and family DO get a lot more interested – in the sharing and sampling of the results…which, by and large, haven’t let me down too badly.

Tanyddraiggoch.com is part of that hobby, and is “of me, by me, for me” on the whole. I do hope you find these pieces entertaining, educational or enlightening in some way. If not, I won’t be offended if you move on…the rest of the Internet is only a click away 🙂 !

Complete with sausages !
