“Trompo King” Upright Skewer

“Trompo” is Spanish for “spinning top” apparently. The reference to spinning could be because this provides a nice way to “vertically stack” meats as an alternative to a rotisserie. Or maybe it spins on the skewer when you turn it upside down ?

I definitely see myself getting more and more into the rotisserie method with the Joetisserie, baskets and so on. But while I see that as being the way to go for large cooks and for more “stable” ingredients (e.g. big chunks of meat, baskets of wings etc) it’s sometimes frustrating to try to get “stacks” of meat to just stay on and stay spinning. It’s a gravity issue.

So, enter this useful gadget. The “Trompo King” from Smokeware (I’m not affiliated or rewarded). I’m sure its available from lots of places, probably not hard to make or improvise and some alternative probably can be obtained for a bit less money. But I DO like the products that the guys at Smokeware have pulled together. I bought a really nice stainless steel drip pan which I use under my meats a lot. This seems to be an expansion of that idea and that quality by sticking a skewer to the middle.

Given the popularity of the various chicken, lamb, beef “stacks” marinated with spices and ingredients from many parts of the world, I see the investment in the quality of this product being worthwhile.

What’s in the box is simple enough (see the main image) :

  • A pretty sturdy stainless steel dish – nice size at 13.5 inches.
  • A long skewer – 7 inches.
  • An even looooonger skewer – 12 inches !
